In June of 2015 Caelus Energy decided to move forward with a winter exploration program in Smith Bay, Alaska. The primary objective of the 2015 / 2016 exploration program involved drilling two offshore exploration wells to depths near 6,500’ and 9,500’. Smith Bay is approximately 150 miles from Prudhoe Bay and 130 miles from the nearest road. In order to achieve this objective, Cruz Construction was selected as the primary contractor for barging, overland transport, ice infrastructure, facilities, and rig support. The main components of the project are list below:

    • Barge 430 Truck Loads from Prudhoe to Point Lonely
    • 5,000 LF Runway on frozen lake.
    • 160 Miles of Snow Trails
    • 120 Sea Ice Trail
    • 13 miles of Ice Road
    • 2 Ice Islands for Drilling Operations
    • 200+ Remote Camp Facility
    • Tundra Transport of 993 Loads for Mobe, Demobe, and Resupply.
